It can be seen from the table that 350 MW sets

would be the largest that the CLP system could accommodate in the early 1980's when additional generating capacity is required.

(d) Generating Capacity

CLP require reserve capacity for the following purposes:

(a) to cater for unscheduled demand and restrictions

of generating plant, and

(b) to provide continuous operating reserve in

Case of a sudden trip of the largest

generating unit.

This reserve capacity comprises, in appropriate proportions, spinning reserve' 'hot standby', 'gas turbine standby' etc, each of which plays an important part in the overall security of the system. 'Spinning reserve' is in the form of part- loaded machines ready to give instantaneous supply while 'hot standby' is plant primed to provide supply in about an hour.

The remaining reserves are to cover plant maintenance etc. CLP's decisions on the plant needed furnish this reserve

capacity are based on the following considerations.
