(b) Generation per Capita
Electricity generation in Kowloon and the New
Territories has grown from 339 units per head of population
in 1958 to 1850 units in 1976. This represents an average growth of 9.9% per annum over the 18 year period.
This rate of growth is certainly high by world
standards and it is doubtful that it could be maintained
indefinitely. However, in the knowledge that this generation of 1850 units per head of population is only about half of that in France, one third of that in the UK
and 20% of that in the USA, the pre-1976 growth rate is
likely to be maintained for some time to come.
The forecast of generation per capita is therefore
oalculated on the assumption that demand in Kowloon and
the New Territories will grow at a rate comparable to the
trend prior to the recession and is presented in Table 2
below.
