Now that Hong Kong has accepted a most restrictive agreement with the FEC, it is no use crying over spilt milk. The Government should give practical assistance to the hard-hit textile industry to tide over the difficulties. Positive steps should be taken to help manufacturers explore new outlets and to abolish all policies and measures which hinder industrial and commercial development.
Even if we (nations affected by the protectionist attitude of the EEC) do not take positive retaliatory action, we should join forces to oppose those selfish international syndicates. This might slightly curb the rising tide of protectionism.
