ASSESSMENT OF FAR EASTERN, ESPECIALLY HONG KONG, PRESS REACTIONS TO THE CURRENT TEXTILE ISSUE
1. Could I please ask for your help in providing a round-up/ assessment of press reactions (good, bad or middling) to the current textile issue and the part Britain is playing.
2. I understand from Mr Roberts that Mr Whitney has commissioned such an Assessment from F E Section, OID. As we receive only the Far Eastern Economic Review, the Japan Times and the Pyong Yong Times we do not have the material on which to prepare such an assessment.
3. I understand that Mr Gooch of OID's Economic Section has also been instructed directly from Mr Whitney to pursue this matter with EID. He and I are co-ordinating our work, therefore.
4. Any help your Section can offer will be greatly appreciated.
