H.K. Textile Delegation

We spoke and I enclose a copy of the note which was distributed to those attending the press conference here on June 23rd. As I explained, invitations were restricted to those Hong Kong papers represented in London (S.C.M.P., Standard & Star) and Dick Wilson for Textile Asia, etc., and to the textile reporters of the F.T., Times and Economist (who in the event did not attend). I enclose a copy of the reports which appeared in the Times & F.T. on June 24th.

Francis Tien and his colleagues spoke of the problems of the Hong Kong textile industry and, in reply to questions, expressed satisfaction that they had been able to state their case in the right quarters. He did not speculate as to the effect this case might have on U.K. textile policy but he confirmed that assurances had been given to the delegation that Hong Kong's interests would not be overlooked.
