David Kenneth Newbigging
David Kenneth Newbigging is Chairman and Senior Managing
Director of Jardine Matheson & Co Ltd which is one of the largest
companies in Hong Kong. He was born in Tin Tsin in China in 1934, educated in Canada and at Arundel School, finished National Service in 1954 and was in the King's Own Scots
Borderers. He is Director of several other companies, a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Employers' Federation of Hong Kong, a Steward of the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and a Member of the Executive Committee of the Community
Chest of Hong Kong, an important charitable organization.

The Governor of Hong Kong has told us that he is thinking of appointing Mr Newbigging to a seat on the Hong Kong Legislative Council later this year. Lord Goronwy-Roberts has informed the
Governor that he has reservations about this idea since the
appointment of Mr Newbigging would not help towards the agreed objective of widening the social composition of the Legislative
Council.
