45. - ODM has made use of the services of the Royal Institute of Public Administration to undertake training in management services, both in Britain and overseas, for central government personnel from Indonesia and the Sudan. The Institute of Local Government Studies, Birmingham University, has been engaged to provide training for local government staff in the Southern Sudan. The Institute also provides, with ODM financial support, short courses in UK on specific aspects of local government management.

W Research and Development

46. During 1976, the ODM financed research and development to support an increased programme investigating the economic and social problems of the developing countries. $ (€12.2 million) was spent in all, most of it on problems of global and regional import rather than those confined to a single country. The greater part of the expenditure went on research in the field of renewable natural resources (agriculture, livestock production and health, pest control, fisheries and forestry) and there were also major outlays on medical, economic and social research (including population problems) and research connected with water resources and road and building construction.
