Among these, item 79 Extension of mains water supplies to villages in the Sha Tin, Tai Po, Tuen Mun & Yuen Long Districts - Stage II' will provide mains water supply to 89 villages in the lev Territories at an estimated cost of $1.923 million, and work is expected to be completed in the coming financial year.

Under existing policy, free standpipe water supply may be provided for established villages in the New Territories on the basis of not more than one standpipe for every
500 persons without metered water. However, consideration is now being given to providing standpipe supplies to communities of less than 500 but over 250 persons. A list of 19 villages in the New Territories which fall into this category and which prefer free standpipe supply (as opposed to full village supply) has been compiled.
