Clearance of land would encounter less opposition if levels of compensation were more generous.

The Government has appointed a small committee to examine all levels of compensation. Hope the Kuk will make its views known to the Secretary and also through the Ilousing Authority.

Vater supplies to many areas need improvement.

A substantial water supply development programme is in hand which will benefit most of the areas particularly affected.

ilany services such as street lighting and medical facilities need improvement.

The Chief Secretary has informed the Kuk in a recent letter of measures to be taken to improve the situation in various fields. Discussions with the Secretary for the New Territories have been useful and

productive.

Re-assessment of rateable values are too high.

Owners have a right of appeal. The Financial Secretary in his Budget Speech announced new over percentage rates to take account of higher re-assessments. Rates in the New Territories are being phased in and village houses are exempted.
