AN INTERPRETER FOR THE HEUNG YEE KUK'S CALL ON LORD GORONWY-ROBERTS
1.
In Mr Ore's absence on leave, I consulted Training Department on the availability of a' cantonese' interpreter to sit in on Lord Goronwy-Roberts' meeting on 26 April with the Heung Yee Kuk delegation. Training Department said that there was no-one in the office at present who could perform the task required and referred me to Century House. The latter's Training Department say they will make available Mr AJ V Fletcher (2501 Ext 194) or one of the latter's staff for the meeting and Mr Fletcher has said that he (or his junior) will come to K 245 at 9.50 am on the morning in question.
2. I shall inform Mr Webb-Johnson that we have an interpreter and ask him to stand down finally Mr Victor Chann. (It would, I think, be embarrassing if Mr Parry did not turn up and Messrs Chann and Fletcher were both to attend to interpret.
