Mr. Stenport HKD)

ния

1. As you are aware, after yesterday morning's meeting with the Heung Yee Kuk, Mr Yeung, Mr Cheung and I met again to agree a line that the Kuk would use with the press.

(I see

from this morning's telegrams that the Kuk did not stick to this line and I shall be submitting separately.) Mr Cheung

said that he had not been able to express during the meeting with the Minister his very great appreciation of the kindness and understanding with which he and his delegation had been received by Lord Goronwy-Roberts. He asked specifically that I should now let the Minister know that he and his

delegation felt that the warmth of their reception by the Minister was unparalled: "they felt as if they had been received into their own family". I engaged to convey this

extra greeting to the Minister.

2. The Minister of State may feel that he would like to reply to this warm message and in case he does I submit a draft.
