Sir Murray MacLehose (MM) agreed that there was
point in discussion. Hong Kong could only abide by legal
instruments that various parties had entered into.
for a review might well be ripe but so long as agreements
remaind they were Hong Kong's only protection.
So far
the question of British trade with Hong Kong had remained
separate. One person in Legislative Council had asked why
bus companies should be required to buy British when EEC
was shutting out Hong Kong textiles. But only one member
made the point and on his instructions no reply was given.
PC asked about the China Light power station.
nothing had gone wrong yet. lle agreed with PC that Kadoorie
had good will. Mr. J. Lippitt (JL) said that Kadoorie was
also being offered a good deal and at a good price. MM
the problem so far had not been of price but whether China
PC said he had had to knock Light should go to tender.
a few heads together to get a good deal.
