TRADE BETWEEN HONG KONG AND WARSAW PACT COUNTRIES
In our telegram No. 142 of 7 February commenting on the three questions from Mr Robert Parry, MP regarding consular representation, we mentioned that Hong Kong's exports to Warsaw Pact countries accounted for a trifling percentage of the total of Hong Kong's export trade. magnitude we referred to was "less than 2%".

I have looked into this carefully since we sent the telegram and I think you might wish to have on record the attached table giving figures and percentages for exports and imports between Hong Kong and the seven countries concerned. Hong Kong's exports to these countries are in fact less than 1% of the total of Hong Kong's exports overseas and the imports from the same countries are only marginally greater expressed as a percentage.

I do not think that these figures could give any handle for people to claim that this trade needed the protection of a consular representative.
