the arrangements proposed last year to compensate
workers suffering from silicosis and asbestosis
have taken much longer to work out than we had
hoped, but I now expect a draft bill to be
introduced very shortly.
The following proposals will be introduced to
further improve the "orkers Compensation Ordinance :-
to require employers to meet such fees as are
charged for medical attention to persons injured
in the course of employment, also to require
them to meet the cost of repain and replacement
of prothesis and surgical appliances.
To place a surcharge on delayed payment of
workmen's compensation, and the time limit
for application for compensation to be extended.
Consultation is taking place with the Labour
Advisory Board and with both sides of industry

& Industrial Undertakings Ordinance should be
raised or removed to extend protection to more
non-manual employees.
There will be new legislation to cover
electrical safety in industrial undertakings,
and some improvements in the regulations
