QUARTERLY REPORTS
1. Many thanks for your letter of 28 December and for the enclosed quarterly reports. I am circulating these, where appropriate, around the Office and shall in due course let you have the comments requested in paragraphs 2 and 3 of your letter.
2. In paragraph 3 of your letter you mention that the Civil Service Branch Report is to follow. I am certain that it will interest us, as well as GGD. As you know, we have to deal with quite a few queries on staff matters. I note also that you did not enclose quarterly reports in respect of the Councils and Finance Branches and wonder if these are to follow also? I have an idea though that Finance Branch do not produce such a report, which would be understandable.
3. As far as classification of the various items is concerned, this is rather difficult. As you yourself know, the Whitehall criteria are slightly different and applied differently from those in a dependent territory. I have read through all the reports and I thought that the classification was about right.
