Thanks for your letter of 21st January. You will be aware that the next quarter's reports are due to be issued on 10th February for the three months 1st November 31st January. As Civil Service Branch has been very dilatory in producing the last quarter's report I agreed with Alan Scott a few days ago that it had really become somewhat pointless to produce it now. So the first CSB report will be the next one.

2.

The Council's Branch report forms part of the Administration Branch report as it is but one of the organisations which reports to Peter Williams. To call it a "branch" is an anomaly which remains unrectified ! Its contribution to the last report was items 6 to 8 of Part II. As you thought, the Finance Branch does not produce an external branch progress report though it has its own extensive internal monthly work progress document. Where finance is a factor on any item it should be reported on in the appropriate Branch report.

3.

As to classification, we will continue with that given to the last report, pending your comments after you have received the views of those you have consulted in the Office.
