1.
Mr Rowlands has received a telephone call from
Mr John Griffiths of the London School of Economics who has been approached by Mr Julian Hall of the United Bermuda Party about the death sentences passed in Bermuda.
2.
Mr Hall has requested that the FCO intervene to seek a postponement of sentence to allow the Parliament in Bermuda to debate the question. In doing so he has pointed out that the decision was announced on Friday and that sentence is to be carried out on the following Friday, which does not allow Parliament to debate the question as it only sits on Fridays. Mr Rowlands pointed out that the Parliament in Bermuda had voted overwhelmingly in favour of the death penalty.
3.
Mr Rowlands said that he would take note of the
conversation.
