In my telegram No. 143 of 16 June I let you know that the appeal to the Court of Appeal in the case of Queen v Leopold Jones was dismissed on 11th June, 1977. I shall therefore now be consulting my Mercy Committee in the normal way in order to take advice as to whether or not I should exercise the prerogative of mercy.
