Thank you

for your letter of 14 April 1977. The enclosed notes on your visit to the Caribbean dependencies were illuminating and those on Montserrat penetrating. I agree that we can with profit compare check lists in July.

As for paragraph 8 of the general note, I applaud the intention but must mention that I do have a Montserratian lady cypher officer and my numeratic struggles are confined to weekends and personal telegrams.

Your suggestion of annual leave makes good sense and this goldfish for one would welcome welcome a spell out of his bowl eagh year, even if only for the regulatory 27 days allowed in G.Os. It would have to be conditional on help from HMG on passages however and the sacrifice of one holiday passage as a moiety towards the cost should be possible in

own case.

In the weeks after you left the CM's condition dete- riorated steadily until, a month or so ago, his doctor pre- scribed a month in bed. This specific cheered the patient up no end. Truth be told, if he could be so persuaded, his own stamina, and certainly that of his staff would be immeasurably improved if he took a post meridian siesta. Be that as it may, for the last few weeks there has been a noticeable improvement and he is playing the bowling very crisply, with no signs of strain.

The Other Charges votes have again been cut and in real terms (to coin a phrase) have become ludicrously inadequate.
