10.
All files should be properly linked backwards and forwards and related papers noted in the file jacket. Similar records should be maintained on the File Record sheet.
Care should be taken to see that all files bear the correct security classification.
Tackytite labels indicating the classification should be affixed to the spines of jackets.
All inward correspondence and outgoing telegrams should be date-stamped.
All important papers should be considered for supplementary subject indexing (ie supplementary forms DSR 8 should be completed).
More attention should be paid to the nominal indexing of
papers.
Duplicate registration should be kept to the absolute minimum.
File jackets must not be written up and passed to desk officers. The Registry must always have a record of the contents of a file before it is sent for action.
The files could be stored in a much neater fashion if more use were made of compressor plates.
Duplicate copies of telegrams should not be placed on the files.
11. Only drafts containing substantive amendments need to be
kept on files.
12. Tighter control must be kept on the movements of PF files.
