ACCOMMODATION
A.
Thank you for your mirute of 13 December regarding accommodation for the present Gibraltar and General Department and regarding accommodation for the Staffing Section when it joins Hong Kong Department.
I have drawn the attention of Mr Hall to your comment that he may continue to occupy K2738 and that the new grade DS6 may initially. occupy K272A but neither should regard these as their permanent rooms and that it is doubtful that you will be able to provide individual rooms for Mr all and the new Head of Section when they join Hong Kong Department.'
7. Mr Hall has asked me to inform you that he will not be able to carry out the duties of his job unless he has a room of his own. He refers to the fact that he has a steady stream of people to see him from Heads of Departments, Desk Officers and Officers from Overseas (from Governors downwards) who need to talk in completed confidence. In many cases they would be inhibited if there was someone else sitting in the room. You will probably be aware that in dealing with staffing in the Dependent Territories there is a great deal regarding officers which is not written down but which is referred to orally and therefore it is essential that Mr Hall should have a separate room as he is dealing with matters that are very personal to officers.

If necessary I suggest that you have a word with Mr Hall regarding his need to have an individual room. The same argument of course obtains for the DS6 Head of Section.
5. Therefore I hope that you will be able to provide individual rooms for Mr Hall and the DS6 Head of Section when the Staffing Section joins Hong Kong Department.
6. With reference to our recent conversation this is to ask that when you provide accommodation for the Staffing Section to join Hong Kong Department you endeavour to arrange for the occupants of the present room K2734 and their Section Clerk to be accommodated in one room (ie 1 - D39 + 2 - DS10). As you will probably know the Section has a large number of files and papers and therefore will require considerable cupboard space in their room.
7. We are still no nearer to knowing when the demise of GGD will take place.
