Retain Sir lurray Plea
Hong Kong Daily News (21.2.76) said that Sir Murray MacLehose, should have his term of service extended, not only because the people had confidence in his administration, but because his unprecedented achievements and the development of new projects were necessary for Hong Kong.
"We feel that the British Government should let Sir hurray extend his term," it added.
The paper pointed out that while Sir Murray was a former diplomat, his appointment as Governor of Hong Kong the head of a Commonwealth territory should no longer place him in the category of being a"Diplomatic
Service officer".
Therefore, in his present capacity as Governor, he should be exempted from the regulations of the Diplomatic Service, the paper said.
Tin Tin Yat Po (23.2.76) pointed out that if the 64 kaifong associations wished to retain Sir Murray, they must first overcome the traditional British regulation that all Government officials, especially diplomats, must retire at 60.

Sing Tao Wan Pao (23.2.76) commended the Governor's achievements. in the past few years when Hong Kong was adversely influenced by world-vido economic recession, and hoped that the British Government would accept the public's desire to retain Sir Murray.
