The Next Governor and What the People Expect of Him

The question of who would be chosen to be Hong Kong's next governor and what his policies would be has aroused great concern among the people of Hong Kong. So far, almost all governors have made tremendous contributions to Hong Kong. As a result, people in general still have strong confidence in the next governor. However, one thing they expect of him in particular is that he should improve the present state of law and order. This desire has been expressed by leaders of the community.

To improve law and order in Hong Kong is the common desire as well as the basic need of the people of Hong Kong. Hong Kong has had many glorious achievements in the past but they are now dimmed by rampant crimes. When people in Hong Kong cannot live peacefully; when tourists dare not come; when foreigners are reluctant to invest ... whatever great undertakings are initiated here, they will not be of any use. Therefore, the first thing the next governor must do is to improve law and order.
