HONG KONG: MP'S LETTER: MR FRANK ALLAUN MP
(33) 1. Mr Frank Allaun MP (Labour Salford East) wrote to the Flag A Secretary of State for Defence on 22 March enclosing a letter
from Mr Nick Bradley, who represents the Young Socialists on the Labour Party's National Executive Committee. Mr Allaun's letter was passed to the FCO and Lord Goronwy-Roberts sent an interim
reply on 14 April.

The Hong Kong Attorney-General's office have now provided 40, the necessary information to answer Mr Bradley's enquiry about
incidents in Hong Kong last year involving members of the Revolutionary Marxist League. The reply to Mr Allaun's letter should also deal with Mr Bradley's other points about certain conditions of life in Hong Kong, notably his criticisms of restrictions on freedom of assembly. Most of Mr Bradley's points are drawn from this year's Fabian Society pamphlet on Hong Kong and can be answered by using information already provided in Parliament, e.g. Mr Ennals' answer to Mr Hooley's Question on KK 24/24 March about public meetings.

3. I submit a draft reply to Mr Allaun's letter. I think this is a matter which should await Lord Goronwy-Roberts' return to
the office.
