I am now able to give you the information I promised in my letter of 14 April about incidents in llong Kong bst year involving members of the Revolutionary Marxist League. You will recall that Mr Bradley had written to you about this and other matters concerning Hong Kong.
First the facts. There were two incidents involving members of the League. In the first two members were arresto' and charged with distributing handbills and putting up notices without the permission of the Secretary for Home Affairs. One of those charged was also charged with resisting a police officer in the execution of his duty. Bothere convicted and ¡ined 50 on each charge. The second incident, which occurred at approximately the same time, involved members of the League who were awaiting Mr Rodgers' arrival at the airport. They were also engaged in distributing handbills when an argument occurred hetween the League's photographer and a news- paper photographer as a result of which the police took bot. into custody. Although both were subsequently released without being charged, further enquiries led to the charging of two members of the League, again with distributing handbills without the permission of the Secretary for Home Affairs. Both were convicted and discharged with the convictions recorded. I should add that a third person was held in connection with this incident but was not in the event charged.
