HONG KONG: PQs: MR ROBERT PARRY MP

1. Mr Robert Parry MP (Labour Liverpool, Scotland Exchange),

has put down fourteen Written Questions on Hong Kong for answer on 8 December. The bulk of these are about the employment of, and the provision of education for, children and young persons in Hong Kong; the remainder concern "out-working", the progress of the 1976 by-census; and the integrity of the Hong Kong

factory inspectorate.

2. Mr Parry has a number of Hong Kong Chinese constituents and several contacts in Hong Kong itself. He put down six Questions in November on the Turner Study of labour Relations in Hong Kong and on corruption, and one in July on land policy in the New

Territories. The local council in the New Territories is

believed to have paid for a 3-week visit that Mr Parry made to Hong Kong in September.

3. Lord Brockway asked two questions about child labour in Hong Kong in the House of Lords in July.

4. The Hong Kong Government have provided material on which to base replies to Mr Parry's Questions (Hong Kong telegram no. 1214, which was received this morning). They have not been able to provide complete information in the case of every

Question.

5. The cost both to HMG and to the Hong Kong Government in

When providing answers to these questions has been very high.

I receive figures from Hong Kong about the actual costs, I shall submit again on this question.

6. I submit draft replies to Mr Parry's Questions.
