w`March, 1978

On (f) Trade promotion, Mr. Kinnear advised and Members

noted that there were possibilitics of British food and automobile

exhibitions in Hong Kong in the reasonably near future. On past experience, such exhibitions were successful in Hong Kong; although

department store promotions were of doubtful.value.

22.

Members discussed inconclusively the possibility of

persuading British selling missions to other parts of the Far East (particularly Japan) to call in Hong Kong. The main difficulty was

to make such visits long enough for them to achieve results and that Missions aimed or Japan were not always appropriate for Hong Kong in timing and composition.

23.

On (g) Seminars, from their own experience Members were

doubtful of the value of seminars as a means of interesting Hong

Kong industrialists in British products.

3/76 Date of next meeting

24.

Members agreed that the next meeting should be held as soon as the Trade Development Council was able to report on the first part of their analysis on British trade with Hong Kong.
