CONFIDENTIAL
by the Independent Commission Against Corruption and living in Taiwan has, I believe, been prompted by Mrs Elsie Elliott, an elected member of the Urban Council in Hong Kong, who complained about ex-olice officers who ware under investigation living "safely" on Taiwan, when I met her last month. Finally, I should point out, as HM Embassy in Peking have done, that no-one has been deported from Hong Kong to China (or elsewhere) on political grounds, Those persons who have been returned to China are illegal immigrants; those deported to Taiwan or other states had committed criminal offences.
3. I submit draft replies to Mr Hooley's Questions. FED, UND
the OLA and the ODM, as appropriate, concur.
