LABOUR LEGISLATI ON
1. The Hong Kong Government has undertaken a very substantial programme of labour legislation in recent years. It plans to enact the following further legislation, which it expects to take about 5 years:
(1) Holidays
(a) 4 additional statutory holidays with pay
(w.e.f. 1 January 1977)
(b) 4 additional compulsory rest days a year
to 52 (w.e.f. 1 January 1977)

1 week's annual paid leave (w.e.f. 1 January 1978)
(2) Overtime
Abolish maximun hours of overtime for young persons (16 to 17) from 200 a year to nil by four stages (January 1977 to January 1980).
(3) Sickness Benefit
(a) Increase maximum number of days on which allowance
is paid from 24 days to 36 days
(b)
Increase sickness allowance from half to two-thirds of pay
(4) Severance Pay
Rates of benefit to be enhanced from 1/3 to of pay per year of service
