IMMIGRATION FROM HONG KONG

Mr Luard would find it helpful to have a short note on the immigration aspects of Hong Kong. The note should include answers to the following:

(a) How many citizens of the UK and Colonies by reason

of birth, registration or naturalisation are at present in Hong Kong?

(b) How many actually hold British passports?

(c) How many of (a) are patrial?

(d) How many of (a) otherwise have the right of entry

to the UK?

(e) What is the approximate size of the Hong Kong

community in Britain?

(f) What is the total flow of dependents, fiances, etc from Hong Kong? What categories does it comprise, and what are the figures for recent years?

(g) What, in broadest outline, would be the immigration

implications of a hypothetical Chinese decision to take over Hong Kong?

(h) Can we reasonably work on the assumption that (g)

is unlikely for some years at least?
