Other Cases of Interest

50. On 7th January 1975, officers of the Narcotics Bureau raided a pottery factory at Hong Ka Wai, near Castle Peak, New Territories. The raid resulted in the seizure of 283 plaster moulds for producing opium pipe heads, and over 300 new opium pipe heads.

51. Connected raids were carried out on 9th January in Kowloon Walled City, resulting in the seizure of a very large quantity of opium lamps, pots, brass opium containers, opium pipe heads, opium pipe stems and other opium smoking paraphernalia. A Chinese female MOK Siu-han (5459/1421/8287) was arrested on the premises and charged with Possession of Instruments Fit and Intended for the Smoking of Opium. She was fined HK$250 and sentenced to 6 months' imprisonment suspended for 2 years.

52. These raids were the culmination of many months' investigation into a group of people responsible for manufacturing opium smoking paraphernalia and supplying it to opium divan keepers throughout the Colony.

53. On 11th January 1975, acting on information, officers of the Narcotics Bureau carried out a search of the coastline near Tai Tun, south Lamma Island. Hidden in caves near the shore, they found two sacks containing two Japanese light machine guns, three smith and Wesson revolvers, 497 rounds of ammunition and miscallaneous firearm parts. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

54. None of the arms or ammunition had been reported stolen, and it is believed that they were used during 1973 by persons involved in the high-jacking of drug consignments in international waters close to Hong Kong. Para. 40 and 41 of the Bulletin for the 2nd half 1974 is relevant.
