Dear John

63/€

13 May 1975

Thank you for your letter of 21 April about this year's meeting in the US/HK/UK series.

As you may have heard from your Agent in London, I have now been able to confirm with Hong Kong and with people here a date for the meeting which will fit into your itinerary. We shall be glad to welcome you on Monday and Tuesday, 9 and 10 June, for a short meeting, broadly to discuss the items proposed in my letter of 7 March. I am now pressing ahead with making the arrangements for such a meeting and will let you know nearer the date but as soon as possible (through Mr Katz) a detailed agenda, suggesting areas for a special contribution from your side.

Perhaps you could let me know for planning purposes who will be in your team.

I understand that Peter Lee, the new Narcotics Commis- sioner, Peter Law, the Hong Kong police liaison officer in Bangkok, and possibly John Rumbelow will be here from Hong Kong. We shall also be asking Norman Rolph to join us. We shall be three as usual, adding ad hoc for particular items. I shall also provide secretariat.

Neither we nor the Hong Kong authorities would have any objection to the Canadians joining the meeting, provided that we can keep our numbers reasonably confined and that the agenda remains within the limited framework which we have found effective hitherto. We are confident that this will be possible. I shall await the approach from Mr Pritchard that you mention before finalising their partici. pation.

Because of the strong Hong Kong interest in heroin from there reaching Europe, I am proposing to ask Mr Jean Nepote if he would like to nominate (for this meeting alone) a participant from ICPO/ Interpol. I hope that this will be acceptable to you.

From now on I shall keep Mr Katz directly in the picture on all arrangements.

Yours sincerely

C J TRAIN
