A large quantity of apparatus used in the manufacture of acetic anhydride was seized.

on the (A) charge. The seizure from the two storage centres amounted to 20.1 kilogrammes of raw opium and 15.921 kilogrammes of prepared opium. No arrest was made.

18. On 21st and 22nd December, 1974, officers of Narcotics Bureau carried out related raids on nine premises connected with a heroin trafficking syndicate. During the raids about 0.5 kilo- gramme of No. 3 heroin (chemical analysis is not yet complete, so only approximate weights can be given) was found, together with a large quantity of chemicals and equipment used in the manufacture of heroin. The equipment was found in two flats, one at 99A Wuhu Street, 5/F, and the other at 2 Shun Yung Street, F Block, 19/F, both in Hung Hom. Of significance is the fact that no crude morphine was found on any of the raids; morphine

of the raids; morphine was at that time in very short supply in Hong Kong, and it appeared that the equipment was being moved from the Wuhu Street address to Shun Yung Street as a security measure whilst awaiting fresh supplies.

19. Three Chinese males, CHAN Siu-man (7115/4801/2429), CHIU Kwok-wah (6392/0948/5478) and Chur Dung-yuet (1176/2639/6390) were arrested at Wuhu Street, and one Chinese female, NG Mei-chu (0702/5019/3796), was arrested at Shun Yung Street. All four were charged with Manufacturing Dangerous Drugs, and CHIU, CHUI and NG were additionally charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs for the Purpose of Unlawful Trafficking. The cases are still pending.

20. Acting on information, officers of the Narcotics Bureau mounted an ambush in Cha Kwo Ling Road, Kwun Tong, on the night of 25th/26th July 1974. Shortly before dawn on 26th July, a lorry was seen leaving the Cha Kwo Ling Pier; this was intercepted and searched, resulting in the discovery of 32 gunny sacks of raw opium and 20 blocks (999) of morphine concealed amongst sacks
