We calculate 40 viss per mule but 20% of the mules on each convoy carry other things - paddy, cooking equipment, etc. This is probably an under-estimate, for when Bo Mong ceded Nakar to the K.M.T., the tax he was given in return on all opium passing through Nakar was calculated in this way. The Shans still grumble that the K.M.T. got the best of the bargain.
