FRANCE has not committed herself to any figure, though a French official said on 9 May that France expected to receive a substantial number of refugees altogether, perhaps of the order of 10,000. 600 of the Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong claim a connection with France and 700 in total have expressed a wish to settle there, though not necessarily as a first choice.
DENMARK will take up to 100 Vietnamese refugees, and possibly a few more.
The Danes have so informed the UNHCR and have said that they would prefer to take their refugees from those now in Hong Kong.
SWEDEN does not wish to take any more Vietnamese refugees.
THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY (FRG) is in favour of taking Vietnamese refugees but the final decision on admission rests. with the Länder. 71 refugees in Hong Kong have expressed interest in going to the FRG.
THE NETHERLANDS think they will be unable to help over the refugees in Hong Kong.
ITALY will take Vietnamese refugees only if they have a sponsor or close relatives in Italy. 28 of the refugees in Hong Kong claim some connection with Italy.
BELGIUM has said that she will look at applications on an individual basis. 62 of the refugees in Hong Kong claim some connection with Belgium.
TUNISIA will apparently take at least three of the refugees in Hong Kong.
