VIETNAMESE REFUGEES AND ORPHANS
1.
Mr Schaafsma, of the Netherlands Embassy, rang this morning and informed me that his Minister is to announce shortly that the Netherlands are to take 60 Vietnamese orphans and an unspecified number of refugees.
2. In his letter SCR1/4821/75 of 4 June to Mr O'Keeffe (paragraph 10), Mr Donald (Hong Kong) sees no hope of the Netherlands taking any of the refugees in Hong Kong. They might now be prepared to do so when the Minister has made his announcement.
3. I drew Mr Schaafsma's attention to our concern for the eventual fate of this group of refugees and implied that we would be grateful for any help that other governments might offer in this respect.
