(b) Mr Jackson asked about the British effort.

I explained that we had sent some 80 case histories to the UK and had not yet received any definite replies, but we had heard from the F C O (Mr O'Keeffe) that they were intending to approach the Home Office again. Mr Jackson pointed out that there were a number of ex-British territories, particularly in the Caribbean who had indicated to the U NHCR that they might be prepared to take some refugees and he wondered if Britain would be able to make representations to them, although this would be difficult if Britain herself had taken none. I said that we would pursue this idea with the FC O
