VIETNAMESE REFUGEEE
1.
Please refer to our telegram no. 423 of 27 May about
the offer from a lady in Tunisia to take three young Vietnamese now believed to be at one of the camps in Hong Kong. I enclose a copy of the letter from the Vice-Consul in Tunis reporting this offer, together with a photocopy of Mrs Tran Thi Huong My's original letter to him.
It appears that the offer is a genuine one and that the Tunisian authorities are unlikely to make any difficulties. I am not sure, however, that the position regarding onward travel of Vietnamese refugees now in Hong Kong for resettlement elsewhere is as set out in paragraph 5 of Noble's letter. If there are any snags, the simplest course might be to take the matter up direct with our Consular Section in Tunis.
