GENERAL INFORMATION
The Prisoner was said to be born in Hong Kong on 3rd May 1954, but without a birth certificate. However, his date of birth was certified in his identity card No. C251453. He was brought up in a poor family with a drug addicted father.
His father who had been a drug addict for about 6 years, went back to Canton, China, with his wife sometime in 1970 to get rid of his drug addiction. They are now still living in Canton with two sons. Since then it was the elder brother who took care of the Prisoner, living at the present address.
The Prisoner received 7 years of education. He finished primary schooling at Chun Kwong Primary School, Yuen Long, N.T. in 1966. He joined the Secondary School Entrance Examination in the same year and was allocated to the Fung Kai Public School, Sheung Shui, N.T. He dropped schooling after he had completed F. 1 due to poverty as his father was still a drug addict at that time.
After leaving school he came out to work as an apprent- ice in tailoring. He spent 21⁄2 years in apprenticeship and later became a skilled worker. He later worked at garment factories for about 2 years up to early 1973 earning around $700 a month. He was dismissed for absence without leave. Since February 1973 he was unemployed. During that time he used to do some tailoring at home earning around $10 a day up to the time of offence. When he was employed he used to stay at the working place. Sometime in July 1973 he went to Canton to visit his parents and two elder brothers there for about 10 days. His relationship with other family members was said to be good. It was learnt that he used to remit some money to his parents when he was fully employed.
