GENERAL INFORMATION
•
The Prisoner came from a poor peasantry family in China. He ranks third among seven siblings. At the age of six, he was adopted by his paternal uncle, Mr. FONG Hing-shui, who has no children of his own. He had studied for 5 years at his native place, and became a farmer in the following years. He had also been a machine-repair worker in Canton for four years before he arrived Hong Kong by illegal entry in 1962 to meet his adoptive father who came here earlier in 1950. At first, he assisted his adoptive father in rearing pigs in Castle Peak for a year. Then, he worked at a textile factory or as a delivery labourer at various piers in the following four years.
In 1967, he got married with his present wife and they have two children. After marriage, he changed to work as a fruit hawker at Yu Man Square in Kwun Tong. In 1970, while continuing his fruit hawking business, he also cooperated with his wife's uncle and another friend in running a small embroidery workshop at 89, Fu Yan Street, 8/F., Flat E, Kwun Tong.. The embroidery business was eventually not satisfactory and closed by end of 1972. Since then, he had engaged himself in his fruit hawking business only until his arrest in October, 1973.
