Report by Home Affairs Department
Enquiries have been made by the staff of City District Offices
in Kwun Tong and Kowloon City where the nearest relatives of the prisoners
and the victim live.
2.
At the time of the trial on this case in last year, relatives of
the victim and a Mr. CHENG Chum who was severely wounded in the gang fight
did approach the staff of City District Office in Kwun Tong expressing their wish to see that the condemned prisoners receive death penalty if
found guilty.
3.
They expressed the same view when they were approached now.
The foster parents of FOING Tung were visited but they seemed
reluctant to give much comment on the condemned prisoner.
4.
Fully aware of KWOK Ki-cheong's previous criminal record, his
parents were of the view that the lack of proper education led to his
affiliation with the triad elements.
5.
The staff of City District Office in Kowloon City got in touch
with FONG Ping, brother of the condemned prisoner NG Lee-kin (@ FONG Lee-
kin). He informed them that Ng had committed suicide while in custody at Stanley Prison on 18.5.75 at approximately 1.30 a.m. Further enquiries
also revealed that as Ng had no children it was not necessary for FONG Ping
to support his family. However, having been out of work since 1973; Ng's
wife expected some sort of financial assistance from Social Welfare
Department.
6.
The relatives of prisoner MA Sung-lee could not be traced at the
given address.
7.
No significant public interest was attached to this case as a year
had elapsed after the occurrence of the incident, but the sentiments of the
kaifong and other C.D.O. contacts are still strong on the question of death
penalty. The consensus remains that capital punishment should be carried
out as an effective deterrent to the ever-increasing crimes of violence.
