He appeared to be regretful for his present offence. He was rather emotionally upset and worried about his family's situations, especially his father and mother who he said were too old to go to work.

SUMMARY

The Prisoner was found to be responsible and filial at home.

He was kind to his family as shown in his financial con- tribution and concern he showed to his family, his parents and his next of kin. As he used to live alone at his place of work outside home, it seemed he lacked family control and parental supervision. Gambling was his favourable habit that made him run into financial difficulty, almost always. Although he was on good terms with his family and natives in Tung Chung, it was felt that he could be easily irritated by others as shown in his current conflict and quarrels with his fellow workers and senior staff during employment situations. However, he did not let his family and his natives have knowledge of his behaviour outside, and there- fore he had impressed his family and the friends in Tung Chung as a boy with no bad conduct or misbehaviour. There was no evidence to indicate that he was money-minded apart from his indulgence in gambling. It was also doubtful whether he was really influenced by the undesirable associates outside when considering his strong and independent character. His commission of the offence might be triggered off by the spur of the moment or at the dictate of the circumstances rather than related to the backgrcand from which

he came.
