kerosene stove company with his maternal uncle at Yuen Long in the New Territories. But a year afterwards, he quarrelled with his uncle and the two parted. It was then about 1968.

Since then, the Prisoner had been on his own and it was said that he had been very unsteady. He was in casual work at restaurants for quite a long while. Then he worked at a noodle factory, a toy factory and two knitting factories.

Because he did not work properly, he was expelled from home in about 1970 by his father, and he was also being expelled for being suspected to be a drug addict.

He lived with a friend at this time at a neighbouring room and they worked together at toy-painting; and this period was said to be the Prisoner's best in behaviour.“

However, after he left that neighbour, which was about six months afterwards, he started drifting again, and he became unemployed, he said, in the middle of 1972. His reasons were that he could not find a suitable work that he liked.

Despite this rather shiftless state, he cohabited with his girl-friend and they had a daughter who was born fifteen days after this offence. The daughter is now being looked after by the Prisoner's parents.

The Prisoner revealed that he had associated with undesirables since 1956, while playing football in the playground of Valley Road Estate, and he was recruited as a member of the 'Tung San Wo' triad society by paying $36.60 to a 'big brother' Ah Sum. Since that year, he revealed that he had been in trouble.

He was bound over for one year in the sum of $10 on 3.12.66 for Simple Larceny (Case No. NK54440 refers), and again on 26.5.70 for one year in the sum of $300 for Smoking Dangerous Drugs (Case No. NK21974 refers). However, he denied being a drug addict. On 6.8.70, while his second bond was still operative, he committed Attempted Larceny from Person and was conditionally discharged for twelve months, and his bond of 26.5.70 was allowed to stand.

He admitted he was further involved in bad company and leading suspected unlawful activity, beginning from 1973 because he needed money to enjoy himself and support his girl- friend. While waiting for his sentence for the present offence, he was convicted of Wounding and was sentenced on 22.3.74 to six months' imprisonment (Case No. W5248 refers).
