P.D. 21 (7/72)

1.

2.

That on the 2nd day of December, 1974, the appeal of your humble petitioner was dismissed and he is now a condemned prisoner waiting to be executed for the offence of murder.

That your humble petitioner is seeking for mercy from Your Excellency the Governor to save him from this punishment.

>

3. That your humble petitioner is aged 26 years, being the eldest

of three brothers and four sisters, and had to terminate his education at the age of 14 years, as his family could not afford to let him continue his studies, and then assisted his father as a woollen garment worker for about six years. That he then became a fruit hawker, contributing half his earnings to the family, and was so employed at the date of his arrest on this matter.

4.

.5.

6.

7.

That your humble petitioner had, until this fatal incident, led an honest and industrious life, being always employed, and never having been convicted of any criminal offence.

That in spite of your humble petitioner's attempts to earn a good living to help support his family, as a result of difficulties in his business he became in debt and found it hard to support himself and his family. He accordingly reluctantly agreed when it was suggested to him that he join in an attempt to rob a bank and thus became involved in this fatal incident.

That your humble petitioner was not armed at all throughout the entire incident on 14th August 1973, although he knew that some of his accomplices were armed, he assumed this was merely to frighten those in the bank, and did not envisage serious violence being used.

That at the time of this fatal incident, when a shot was fired at the deceased, your humble petitioner was not at the scene of the shooting, but was running away in a different direction and took no part in that shooting and, indeed, offered no violence to any person throughout the whole series of events during and after the robbery. Although your humble petitioner accepts his joint responsibility in this fatal incident, he asks that this is taken into consideration in support of this petition.
