1. That on 2nd December 1974, the appeal of your humble petitioner was
dismissed and he is now a condemned prisoner waiting to be executed
for the offence of murder.
2. That your humble petitioner is seeking for mercy from Your Excellency
the 'Governor to save him from this punishment.
3. That your humble petitioner is aged 21 years, having been born in this
Colony, the youngest of five brothers, that his father died in the
year 1966, and that his education was terminated at Primary 5 level
owing to the financial position of his family, when your humble
petitioner had to seek work, being then aged 12 years.
4. That prior to this fatal incident your humble petitioner had never been
convicted of any criminal offence involving violence, and had always sought to
earn an honest living. At the time of his arrest on this matter your humble
petitioner was working as a painter and earning $600 per month, of which
he gave $400 to his mother to assist in the upkeep of the family.
5. That your humble petitioner was tempted to take part, and did take part,
in the robbery of the Chartered Bank, Cheong Wah Street, Kowloon on'
14th August 1973 because of his straitened financial circumstances, but
did not intend, and did not wish, any person to be injured or harmed in
any way. That this fatal incident arose when your humble petitioner was
being pursued by several police officer, and in panic, and believing his
own life to be in danger, he fired the gun he carried in the direction of
his pursuers, in an effort to cause the pursuit to cease so that he might make good his escape. At no time did he intend serious harm to the police
