deceased he was not firing his gun, for fear of causing injury to those in

the area. Nevertheless, your humble petitioner accepts his share of legal

responsibility for the death of the deceased, but asks that it be considered

in his favour and in support of this petition that throughout this incident

he harmed no-one and did not desire nor expect the unfortunate, fatal result.

That your humble petitioner is very repentant of his action and fully appreciates

the disgrace he has brought to himself and to his family and is deeply troubled

by the grief that has been caused to the family of the deceased. He realises

fully his error in allowing himself to become involved in this incident.

Therefore he is appealing to Your Excellency the Governor to pardon him

for his acts, and to remit his present sentence of hanging and substitute one of

imprisonment so that he can repent and atone for all his wrongdoing.

That your humble petitioner promises to remember this forever and thence

forward to lead a useful and industrious life and be of benefit to the community.
