REPORT TO HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN RESPECT OF CRIMINAL CASE NO. 33 OF THE 1974 SESSIONS OF THE SUPREE COURT

On the 14th August, 1973 a robbery took place at a branch of
the Chartered Bank at Cheong Wah Street/Un Chow Street, Kowloon. During
the get-away a police sergeant was shot dead. In the small hours of the
next morning the police mounted an exercise in which six simultaneous
raids were made and nine persons were arrested. In the home of the 8th
person six revolvers and twenty-two rounds of ammunition were found.
A preliminary enquiry was held in a Magistrate's Court and the
nine persons arrested were committed for trial before the Supreme Court.
All told there were twenty-eight counts on the indictment. All those
arrested were indicted for the murder of the sergeant, the robbery and
control of the arms and ammunition. Eight of the nine were charged on
some or other of the remaining twenty-four counts. The 8th accused
person was only charged with the four crimes just mentioned.
Of the seven persons with whom this report is concerned the
following were the charges preferred against each:
All were charged with the murder of the police sergeant.
All were charged with the robbery at the Chartered Bank on
14th August.
All were charged with possession of the guns and ammunition
found in the house of the 8th accuseil.
