New Hebrides

23. Mr. Christoper Price asked the Sec- retary of State for Foreign and Common- wealth Affairs what progress has been made on the joint review with the French Government about the future of the New Hebrides referred to in his Answer to the hon. Member for Somerset, North (Mr. Dean) on 29th January 1975-[Vol. 885, c. 163].

Miss Joan Lestor: I visited the New Hebrides last month, where I met M. Stirn, the French Secretary of State for Overseas Territories. We were satisfied that appropriate action was being taken to implement the measures agreed be- tween the two Governments last Novem- ber. We plan to meet again later this year.

Pacific (Anglo-French Condominium) 24. Mr. Lee asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement upon the future of the Anglo-French Con- dominium in the Pacific.

Miss Joan Lestor: I have nothing to add to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Lewisham, West (Mr. Price) carlier today.

Hong Kong

Mr. James Johnson asked the Secre- tary of State for Foreign and Common- wealth Affairs how many police officers of the Hong Kong Government have made formal complaints and other repre- sentations to the Independent Commis- sion against Corruption since it began its investigations in February 1974 and if he will list these by rank and race, respectively.

Miss Joan Lestor: Forty-five police officers have made formal complaints and other representations on corruption to the commission. The breakdown is:

Mr. James Johason asked the Secre- tary of State for Foreign and Common- wealth Affairs how many Hong Kong police officers have been employed in the Independent Commission against Corrup- tion: what proportion this is of the total how investigating complement; and many of these have served in the former Anti-Corruption Office of the Hong Kong Police Force.

Miss Joan Lestor: Fifty-one officers of the commission were formerly employed by the Royal Hong Kong Police Force. This is almost 17 per cent. of the total investigating complement of 301. teen of the 51 had served at one time or another in the former Anti-Corruption Office.

Mr. Sillars asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many acres of land have been cleared as part of the Hong Kong Gov- ernment's resettlement programme: of these, how many have been sold by the Hong Kong Government; and what is

the total value of these transactions over the past five-year period.

Mr. Eanals: 4,218 acres were cleared between April 1954 and March 1974 for the following purposes:

In the

852 acres of the land at item 3 were cleared in the past five years. same period 121 acres were sold for private development for about HK$1,500 million; but this included land not obtained through clearance.
