Madam,

2.

I am replying to your letter of the 27th April.

As I understand the facts, you were aware that an

allegation of rape had been made against a

that

a criminal charge was preferred in respect of that complaint but not proceeded with on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions. When you heard at secondhand that an earlier report had been made to the Police concerning an allegation of rape by the same man, you have assumed that the Police version of the report, as set out in my letter to you on the 24th April,Was a "false report", and that it was "fixed"

between this (amme and the Police.

3.

I have no hesitation in stating that I find such an. assumption to be totally unwarranted. The answer to your first question is that I certainly did accept the word of the responsible Police Officer who looked into this matter at my request. I had no reason not to do so. Nor did I have any reason to interview the girl in question or her parents, and they were not interviewed by anybody in this department.

4.

is

The name and address recorded' in the Police report

and the address of the sister

being

is recorded as

This is all that I have

in the way of addresses of this family.

Yours faithfully,

(G.R. Sneath)
