Two matters came to mind after leaving you. You did ask what happened to me after war service, to stop my police career. it so happened that accepted an appointment to join the new British Police Formation to help re-organise the Malayan Police after the war. Then Mr Langram ex-Ceylon Deputy Commissioner, Special Branch, asked me to be his No.2 to go to Borneo. I met him and Commissioner Banks when in Ceylon during the war and gave them advice how best to prepare to meet Japanese attacks. - told Mr Langram i preferred the Malayan post in view of my experience, but would join him if it was held up. Perhaps he could enquire about the position? Just before being discharged from the R.A.F. I enquired about the Malayan job but to my dismay was told the establishment had been axed. New plans had been used to make it less expensive and to use members of the Palestine Police. that time Mr Langram had left for Borneo.
By No other senior police appointments were immediately available. It was also said it was unlikely anything permanent could be offered to secure a pension.
That led me to take up the appointment as Personnel Manager, with moller Line U.KTd and Associated companies. A world wide shipping organisation with their own dockyards. Head Office, London. When they had to make drastic reductions and close down offices overseas and move the head office to Hong Kong, I made plans to leave them. i then joined Securicor Ltd to open up their investigations branch and with that done i took charge as their uperational Manager to re-organise the whole business and set it up for big expansion with use of bullion vans. Then they found the new capital could not be raised. Mr Henry Tharks was one of the directors. Lord Willingdon was the Chairman. Tharks was the banker fellow. prepared to sell the business, so made plans to leave to join
They then Hiltons international as a Chief Security üfficer to travel about the world for them. i was asked to go to chicago to make arrangements. 1 visited Australia en-route to look at another proposition and then accepted a new appointment offered by the Attorney-General's Department in Canberra. As I saw it, this would allow me to build up a pension to retire at the age of 65 years. it would mean some slogging work without chances of reaching the high salary range, but by way of security i was tempted into accepting the job. held every promise of being interesting and one where full It use of my long experience would be well used.
